ADMISSIONS TO ST. JOSEPH COLLEGE SEMINARY
Catholic men seriously considering a vocation to the priesthood for the Diocese of Charlotte are eligible to seek admission to St. Joseph College Seminary.
The first step is admission to the priestly formation program of the Diocese of Charlotte. All candidates must meet the following criteria:
- live a life of active faith, prayer, and service
- be recommended by a priest of the Diocese of Charlotte
- be involved in the life of their parish
- be under 49 years of age
- have never been divorced
- have resided within the Diocese of Charlotte for at least one year
- hold a valid tourist or student visa if they are not citizens of the United States
For a first-hand account of the application process, listen to the discernment stories of our current seminarians– they’ll tell you it is not an easy process. But it is definitely an interesting one! Our current application is approximately 30 pages long and requires three written essays. In addition, each candidate for college seminary undergoes intense screening, psychological testing, a criminal background check, plus interviews with the rector and formation faculty.
For more information about admission to St. Joseph College Seminary, please contact Fr. Jason Barone, Vocations Promoter. He will be happy to answer any questions and provide an application packet to start the admissions process. All applications and required documents must be in the Vocation Office for Diocesan Priesthood by March 1 for admission for the following Fall Semester.
The Diocese of Charlotte does not discriminate on the basis of race or national origin and complies with all applicable non-discrimination laws.
