The Diocese of Charlotte was pleased to celebrate the commencement of its first two college seminarians from St. Joseph College Seminary. Both will advance to Mount St. Mary major seminary in Ohio to continue their theological formation for the priesthood.

St. Joseph College Seminary established another milestone: Bishop Jugis presided over a blessing ceremony on our new property! In addition to sanctifying the land with holy water and solemn prayers of blessing, the Bishop also buried a small crucifix and several medals – a Miraculous Medal, a St. Michael medal, and a Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary medal – on the spot where the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will take place in the seminary’s future chapel.

Because seminary enrollment is already nearing 20 men, diocesan planners have modified the original plan, housing up to 20 students in a 17,000-square-foot building, to a 27,000-square-foot building that can house up to 40 men.

On this, the Feast of the Most Holy Name of Mary, we closed on our property – Deo Gratias! St. Joseph College Seminary now has 86 acres of wooded land straddling Belmont and Mt. Holly, located 1.5 miles from Belmont Abbey College.

In a providential sign, the seminary’s land is located on Perfection Avenue. Christian perfection is the goal of the spiritual life, especially for the priesthood. It will serve as a perpetual reminder of the command of Christ: “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matt. 5:48).
